 Hun Bow for Sale

We have a Hungarian made Kassai Hun bow for sale! The Huns valued mastery of both the horse and the bow.  The primary reason for their military successes proved to be their mastery of mounted archery. The Hun bow was weapon more powerful than that of the Romans and in fact later copied by them.

Design

Made to be asymmetrical, the upper limb is longer than the lower one. This bow is ideal for horseback archery. The string is held in place by a fin along the back of sihas that the loops of the string lay on. An extremely efficient bow, the Kassai Hun bow is a real pleasure to target practice with. It is 62 inches tall strung and unstrung and has a 59 inch string. It does not start stacking until 36 inches of draw. The bow weights 2 lb 6oz. It is only made in weights from 27# to 45#.

Technique

 A thumb ring was likely used in Hun archery. The asymmetrical design made for a more effective and accurate shot using a thumb draw. Adding horn plates to the siyahs or ears of the bow makes it more rigid and adds extra leverage to the shot. The traditional Magyar bow also has horn plates on the siyahs. In addition to the recurve bow, scholars today credit the Huns with the introduction of the stirrup into Western Europe. Using their stirrups the Huns would “stand” in their saddles and freely turn while releasing deadly arrows upon their enemies.
