Kassai Bow for Sale

Beautiful Hungarian bow for sale. Designed by Lajos Kassai in Hungary. The Bear conveys power with robust features. Ideal for those archers that want to shoot a rugged, military weight bow this Kassai bow delivers great performance at higher poundages. Measuring 61 inches long when unstrung and 58 inches strung, the Bear is a relatively large bow. Consisting of ashwood for the siyahs and handle as well as a fiberglass body that is wrapped leather. The Bear, similarly to other Kassai Bows, has a smooth draw with minimal vibration upon release. This is the first Kassai bow purchased by the Archery Historian and is still a cherished favorite.

Ancient Magyar Bow Construction

All Eurasian Steppe nomads constructed their recurve, composite bows in a similar manner. The core of the bow was either wood or bamboo. An adhesive, usually derived from fish bladders, holds together the various layers that will allow the bow to store and release energy. Placing horn on the belly of the bow in strips and layers of sinew on the back, produces the power and efficiency inherent in the horsebows of the ancient world. Finally, wrapping the finished bow in a sheath of leather or bark ensured protection from the elements.
